Solo 
​Division

Elementary grades K-5 
Prepare either
  • a simple 1-voice solo
OR
  • a simple 2-voice solo to present to the judge.
​
The division is split to allow for beginners & novices in the K-5 setting.
Elementary-
​What is 1 voice or 2 voice solo?
Middle School grades 6-8 
  • Free choice

High School grades 9-12  
  • Prepare two contrasting pieces. 
 Example: A selection of Leo Brouwer & John Dowland 

Undergraduate College Division age 17+ 
  • Prepare two contrasting pieces 

Present a program of 10-15" for the judge that includes two contrasting pieces.
Example: A selection of Matteo Carcassi & Villa-Lobos

Ensemble Division
 Group should perform works that are classically arranged, fall within 5-7 minutes of music, & include only the acoustic guitar. The division is split into 2 divisions: 

SMALL ENSEMBLE- Duets and trios

  • ​​Elementary to Middle School
  • High School to College  ​

LARGE ENSEMBLE- Quartet and more

  • ​​Elementary to Middle School
  • High School to College
OVERALL COMPETITION RULES & ELIGIBILITY
Open to competitors, regardless of nationality, who are in grades K-5 (Elementary Division), grades 6-8 (Middle School Division), grades 9-12 (High School Division), or age 18+ (College Division) who are not represented by professional management. First place-winners from any previous WTGF competition are not eligible for the same age group.
 
Competitors must participate in the division corresponding with their grade in school, with the exception that past winners of each division are eligible to compete in the next older division if desired; however past winners of Junior and Senior Divisions may not compete in the College division unless they have reached the minimum age requirement.
 
IMPORTANT NOTE: Competitors who do not present appropriate age verification with their registration are required to bring documentation to the Festival Director. Competitors who do not present appropriate materials will be allowed to perform for evaluation by the judge, but will not be eligible for advancing to the finals of the competition or any prizes.
